How Much Does it Cost to Fix My Toyota Land Cruiser Pump?
Toyota Land Cruisers come in a variety of shapes and sizes, but they have one thing in common — their owners are an enthusiastic bunch that love their ‘Cruiser! Whether maintaining and repairing them, restoring them back to their OEM glory days, or modifying them to perform better when off-road, we have repaired injection systems from all generations of ‘Cruisers.
Rebuilding the diesel injection pump
We often get calls from Land Cruiser owners inquiring into the cost of rebuilding their diesel injection pump, which can be difficult to determine, as there have been a large variety of pumps and injectors used over the years, and every component does not wear out the same way. From the simple and classic 3B engine to an RHD import with the 1HT-T engine and dual stage (2 spring) injectors, we have the tools and equipment to bring these components back to OEM specs, properly!
Here is an example of a Land Cruiser pump that came in for an overhaul. The owner is rebuilding the engine and understands that if the engine has run for hundreds of thousands of kilometers, the hard-working injection pump will need to be looked at as well.
Once received, we disassembled the pump and inspected all of the pumping and delivery components, and inspected the governing components for wear or damage.
This particular pump had a meticulous owner that took good care to ensure that quality diesel fuel was being used and that the fuel filters changes were done on a regular basis.
Even after 30 years of operation, this pump was in good enough shape that the pumping and delivery elements were carefully examined, polished, and re-used. The governor was also in good shape, only requiring a few ‘wear & tear’ items to be replaced, and the assembly received new cam bearings, gaskets, seals, o-rings, etc.
This inspection and overhaul was performed on one of the cleanest Land Cruiser pumps that we’ve ever seen come through the shop. Even with this pump in such good condition, the cost to go through this pump and return it to ‘like new’ condition was about $1800.
This is a great example of how regular maintenance pays off with a long, reliable service life of the pump, and the cost of rebuilding the pump is minimal due to the extra care taken during maintenance.
